Best way to memorize the Quran !!

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

How to memorise for long-term ???

This is the Best way to memorize the Quran for long term !!!

Methods of Memorizing which rooted in mind:

1.  Read the lines ten times.  Then repeated to yourself.

If you read it as it continue to next line ‘Verse”. But if you have problem with a word… Read that word with one word before it and one word after it 5 times then read the whole line and repeated to yourself.

2. Then read the next line ten times.

Do not read it twice and repeated to yourself.. No !!! That’s wrong !!

Even you memorize it from first time. You have to read it and read it till the word settle in your mind and locate on the line.

You read the first line ten times and second line ten times.

Now read the two lines three times and repeated to yourself. Then third, fourth, and fifth till the last page.

This we call it short-time memorization!! Might you lost it couple weeks ahead.

How to convert this page to long term memorization ??

Bring the page you memorize. Open it and read it 20 times reading!!  Preferably your finger on the line.

It will stick in your head InshaAllaah. And you will not forget it. Thanks to Allah. Why?

Because if you read it 20 times seen to the page, your eyes will take photocopy for that page, and it will stick in your mind. Allah willing you will never forget it.

A Story Worth Reading

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

Since last night my young son has been unwell.  When I got back from Work this evening I decided to take him to hospital despite my exhaustion.

There were many waiting; perhaps we will be delayed by more than an hour.  I took my number and sat down in the waiting room. There were many faces, young and old, but all silent. Some brothers made use of the many booklets available in the waiting room.

Some of those waiting had their eyes closed, while others were looking around.. Most were bored. Once in a while the long silence was broken by a nurse calling out a number. Happiness appears on the one whose turn it is, and he gets up quickly; then silence returns.

A young man grabbed my attention. He was reading a pocket-sized Quran continuously; not raising his head even once. At first I did not think much about him. However, after one hour of waiting my casual glances turned into a deep reflection about his lifestyle and how he utilizes his time.  One hour of life wasted! Instead of making benefit of that hour, it was just a boring wait. Then the call for prayer was made. We went to prayer in the hospital’s Masjid. I tried to pray close to the man who was reading the Quran earlier in the waiting room.

After the prayer I walked with him.  I informed him of how impressed I was of him and how he tries to benefit from his time. He told me that most of our time is wasted without any benefit. These are days that go from our lives without being conscious of them or regretting their waste. He said that he started carrying the pocket-sized Quran around when a friend encouraged him to make full use of his time. He told me thatin the time other people waste he gets to read much more of the Quran than he gets to read either at home or in the masjid.  Moreover, besides the reward of reading the Quran, this habit saves him from boredom and stress.

He added that he has now been waiting for one and a half hours. Then he asked, when will you find one and a half hours to read the Quran? I reflected; How much time do we waste? How many moments of our lives pass by, and yet we do not account for how they passed by? Indeed, how many months pass by and we do not read the Quran? I came to respect my companion, and I discovered that I am to stand for account and that time is not in my hand; so what am I waiting for?

My thoughts were interrupted by the nurse calling out my number; I went to the doctor. But I want to achieve something now. After I left the hospital I quickly went to the bookshop and bought a pocket-sized Quran. I decided to be mindful of how I spend the time.

If this information is beneficial to you, then feel free to forward it to your friends and relatives.

Reading the Qur’an in Ramadan

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

Abu Umaamah (radiallaahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Recite the Qur’an for indeed it will come on the Day of Judgement as an intercessor for its Ashaab (those who read, memorize and implement it).” [Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 1757]

This hadeeth indicates the virtues of reciting the Qur’an, the greatness of its reward and that it will intercede for its holders on the Day of Judgement towards their entrance into Paradise.

An-Nawaas Ibn Sama’aan (radiallaahu anhu) reported: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) say: ‘The Qur’an will be brought on the Day of Judgement as well as the people who used to act upon it. Surat-ul-Baqarah and Aali ‘Imraan will then approach them.’ The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) likened them to three examples, which I have not forgotten afterwards. He (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: ‘As if they were two clouds or two dark black canopies with light between them both or like two flocks of birds stretching their wings in the air pleading for the one who recited them.'” [2]

‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Amr (radiallaahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: The fast and the Qur’an will intercede for the servant on the Day of Judgement. The fast will say: ‘My Lord, I restricted him from food and drink, so allow me to intercede for him.’ And the Qur’an will say: ‘I prevented him from sleeping at night, so allow me to intercede for him.’ So they will be allowed to intercede.” [3]

Therefore, it is essential for the fasting person to recite the Qur’an more during these blessed days and honorable nights. For indeed, there is a special virtue for the abundance of recitation in these days, which is not found in any other month. He should take advantage of the noble time during this month, in which Allah revealed the Qur’an

There is a special merit to reciting the Qur’an in the nights of Ramadaan. For indeed, the night brings an end to the busy daily affairs, the enthusiasm is roused and the heart and the tongue mount upon reflecting. And Allah is the one in whom we seek assistance.

It is reported that Jibreel used to meet with the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) during each night of Ramadaan and they would study the Qur’an together. [4] So if making thikr (remembrance of Allah) were better than the Qur’an or equal to it (on these nights), they would have done that all the time or at certain times along with constantly gathering for that occasion.

Thus, this hadeeth illustrates the precedence of studying the Qur’an during Ramadan and gathering together for that occasion as well as turning towards one who is more prominent in the memorization of it.

The predecessors of this ummah would recite the Qur’an constantly during Ramadan And when they would fast, they would sit in the masaajid and say: “We will guard our fast and not backbite anyone.”

They would recite the Qur’an in their prayer and out of it. ‘Uthmaan (radiallaahu anhu) would complete the recitation of the (whole) Qur’an once a day. And some of the Salaf would complete it during their qiyaam in Ramadan every three nights. Some of them would do it every seven days and some every ten days.

Al-Haafidh Ibn Rajab (rahimahullaah) said: “The forbiddance of reciting the Qur’an in less than three days (as stated in a hadeeth) has only been mentioned in regards to its being done on a normal basis. As for the specific times that are virtuous, such as the month of Ramadan and especially the nights in which the night of Al-Qadr is sought. Or those places that are virtuous, such as Makkah for the one who enters it without residing there, then it is recommended to recite the Qur’an a lot in these times and places, seeking the merits connected with their time and place. This is the opinion of Ahmad, Abu Ishaaq and other scholars. And the actions of others indicate that as has been stated previously.” [5]

Importance of Reading Quran with Meaning

The person reciting the Qur’an must observe the proper etiquettes of recitation. Some of them are that: He make his intention sincerely for Allah, that he recite it whilst being in a state of purity, that he use the Siwaak and that he recite it while pondering on its meaning and observing total consciousness. Allah says:

“And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? “ (Qur’an, 54:17)

“Allah thus makes clear to you His communications [verses] that you may understand.” (2:242)

*From the above-mentioned verse of Qur’an it is clear that Allah told us to read the Quran with meaning.

Quran is a guide to humanity which also includes you. Since none of us want to be misguided, it is paramount not only to read or recite Quran, but to understand and implement it in our lives as well.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave us a simple formula to be the best: “The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.” (Al-Bukhari) So go ahead, learn and teach the Qur’an, and make yourself among the best of Muslims Insha Allah.

How you can finish reading entire Qur’an in Ramadan

Method: Read 4 pages of the Qur’an after every Salah. Make sure you understand it. 5 prayers X 4 pages = 20 pages. 20 pages= about 1 juz. 1 juz X 30= the entire Qur’an. So simple!

The Correct Methodology of Tafseer

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

The Qur’aan is the last book of divine revelation sent to man, and Allaah has promised to protect it from any distortion or loss. He said in the Qur’aan:

“Verily, I have revealed the Reminder (Qur’aan) and verily I will preserve it.” {15:9}

Its written and recited forms have been preserved without even the slightest change for over fourteen hundred years. However, Allaah’s protection of the Qur’aan did not stop there; He also safeguarded the original meaning. If the protection of the Qur’aan’s meaning had not taken place, deviants would have turned the Book of Allaah into a jumble of symbols, riddles and codes open to a multiplicity of interpretations, and its original meaning would have been lost. The following steps have been deduced by orthodox scholars as being the necessary conditions for making correct tafseer of the Qur’aan:

1. Tafseer of Qur’aan by Qur’aan:

Before seeking an explanation or interpretation elsewhere, the Qur’aan must be relied upon to explain itself, for Allaah knows best what He intended.

For example, Ibn Mas‘ood related that when the following verse was revealed:

“Those who believe and do not obscure their faith with transgression (thulm), for them there is security, and they are rightly guided,”

some of the companions became distressed, because the general linguistic meaning of thulm covers any kind of wrong, major or minor, and none of them were free from error. However, when they approached the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) about it, he replied,

“ It is not as you all think. It is no more than what Luqmaan said to his son, ‘Verily, shirk (associating partners with God) is the greatest form of thulm.’

Thus the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) clarified for them that the broader meaning of thulm was not intended in the first verse; rather it was used to refer to shirk. In this incident, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) explained the Qur’aan by the Qur’aan, demonstrating the first step in the divinely ordained method of understanding and interpretation of the Qur’aan that was established for all generations of Muslims until the Day of Resurrection.

2. Tafseer of Qur’aan by the Sunnah:

On many occasions, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) added further clarification to various verses of the Qur’aan. Allaah had entrusted the job of explaining the Qur’aan to the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). This trust was expressed in the Qur’aan in no uncertain terms,

“I have revealed the Reminder (Qur’aan) to you (O Muhammad) so that you may explain to the people what has been revealed to them.”

The sahaabah understood this clearly and always turned to the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) for clarification whenever they were in doubt about the meaning of any of the Qur’aanic passages. In fact, most of the fine details of salaah, zakaah, sawm, hajj, inheritance laws, etc. were explained either by the Prophet’s statements or practical demonstrations and applications (the Sunnah). Thus, the Prophet’s explanations of Qur’aanic passages are referred to as the tafseer of the Qur’aan by the Sunnah. For example, in Soorah al-Faatihah, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) explained that “al-maghdoobi ‘alayhim” (those on whom is Allaah’s anger) are the Jews, and “ad-daalleen” (those astray) are the Christians.

Tafseer of Qur’aan by Aathaar:

Whenever the sahaabah could not find the tafseer of a passage in the Qur’aan itself or in the Sunnah, they would use their own reasoning based on their knowledge of the contexts of the verses and the intricacies of the Arabic language in which the Qur’aan was revealed. For example, when Ibn ‘Abbaas was questioned about the verse:

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity and to only reveal from their adornment that which (normally) appears,”

he replied, “It refers to the face and hands.” On another occasion, after reciting the verse,

Tafseer of Qur’aan by Language:

With the passage of time, words took on new meanings and old meanings became lost, foreign words entered into the language, and vast sections of vocabulary fell into disuse. This natural process necessitated the explanation of some of the Qur’aanic words according to their literal and grammatical meanings. For example, Yusuf Ali translates the word “burooj” used in the 85th soorah as “the Zodiacal signs,” while Pickthall translates it as “Mansions of the Stars,” but says in his introduction to the soorah that it “is applied to the signs of the zodiac.” Thus, according to them, Allaah is making an oath by the zodiacal signs. Some English-speaking Muslims have taken this to be indirect support for astrology. However, “burooj” originally only meant “star con-figuration,” and it was not until later times that it was used to refer to the imaginary figures of the zodiac that pagan Babylonians and Greeks superimposed on them. Astrology has been forbidden by the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in no uncertain terms, as it falls under the general prohibition on visiting fortunetellers. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said,

“Whoever…visits a fortuneteller [and believes in what he says] 87 has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.”

Tafseer of Qur’aan by Opinion:

Opinions based on a careful study of the first four steps can be considered valid as long as they do not contradict any of those steps. Likewise, the application of obvious meanings of the Qur’aan to existing situations and the formation of conclusions based on their similarities are also allowed, as long as such interpretations do not clash with authentic classical explanations. But,  free interpretation based on philosophical, scientific, or sectarian ideas is totally forbidden. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) was reported to have said,

“Opinion-based argument about the Qur’aan is kufr.” He repeated it three times, then said, “What you know of it, act upon; and what you are ignorant of, refer it to one who knows.”

We can see from the above-mentioned hadeeth that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) sternly warned his companions and later generations of Muslims about interpretations of the Qur’aan based on speculation and unsubstantiated opinions. The reason is that the Qur’aan is the foundation of Islaam and, as such, it had to remain pure and untampered with. If free rein was given to any and everyone to interpret the Qur’aan as they wished, its value would be totally destroyed, and Islaam itself.would be undermined from its base.

Thus, the only acceptable tafseer is that which adheres to the following sequence: tafseer of Qur’aan by the Qur’aan, then by the Sunnah, then by the sayings of the sahaabah, then by language, and finally by opinion, as long as it is based on the preceding four methods and does not contradict any of them.

A Grandmother Who Completed Memorizing the Qur’an at Eighty-Two Years Old

An Interview with Umm Saalih:

A Grandmother Who Completed Memorizing the Qur’an at Eighty-Two Years Old

As Read by Dr. Saleh as Saleh

Al-Hamdulillaah (All-Praise is due to Allah), the One Who said (what means): “And in truth We have made the Qur’aan easy to remember; but is there any that remembers?” Surah 54: 32

Many all over the world memorize the Qur’aan, and it is not strange to see the youth memorizing the Noble Qur’aan and an early age. Al-Hamdulillaah, the One who made the Qur’aan easy for remembrance, had made it easy for Umm Saalih age 82. In an interview with Umm Saalih, she was asked the following questions:

Q1: “What was the reason that drove you to memorize the Qur’aan after so many years?”

She said, “I always hoped to memorize the Qur’aan from the time I was young. My father always used to invoke Allaah for me to become one of the memorizers of the Qur’aan, like himself and like the elder brothers of my family who memorized it. So I memorized in the beginning about three parts and then after I completed the age of thirteen, I got married and became busy with the household and the children. After I had seven children, my husband died. They (the children) were all young so I took the time to raise them and educate them, and then after they grew up and got married, I had more time for myself. Therefore, the first thing I directed myself to focus upon was the Qur’aan.

Q2: “Tell us about your journey with the Noble Qur’aan.”

She said, “My younger daughter was going to high school and she was the closest of my children to me and the most beloved, because she stayed with me after her older sisters got married and got busy with their lives, and because she was a quiet girl, upright, loving, and good. In addition, she was interested in learning the Noble Qur’aan, and her teachers encouraged her.

Furthermore, she was very enthusiastic and always told me of many women who were driven by this great motivation to memorize the Qur’aan, and this is where I started.”

Q3: “Tell me about your way of memorization.”

She said, “We assigned ten verses (meaning her and her daughter who was going to high school). So each day after Asr, we used to sit together. She reads and I repeat after her three times. Then she explains the meaning to me, and after a while, she repeats that three times. On the next morning, she repeats them to me before she goes to school.

She recorded also the recitations of Ash Shaykh al Husary, Rahimuhullaah, repeating each verse three times and thus I continued to listen most of the time. Therefore, the next day we would go to the next ten verses if my memorization was good. Otherwise, we would postpone taking additional verses until the day after. Moreover, we assigned the day of Friday to review the memorizations of the entire week. And this was the journey from the beginning.”

Then she said, “Over four years and a half, I memorized twelve juz” according to the way I described to you. Then this young daughter got married. When her husband knew of our task concerning the memorization, he rented a house close to me, close to my house, so that he could allow the continuation of the memorization. In addition, he, May Allah reward him used to encourage us and sometimes sit with us listening, explaining and teaching.

Then after three years of her marriage, my daughter got busy with the children and the household and our schedule was interrupted, but that did not make her give up. To the contrary, she sensed that my eagerness for the memorization was still established so she looked for a special good teacher to continue the journey under her supervision. So, I completed the memorization by the success of Allaah and my daughter is still working to finish the memorization of the Glorious Qur’aan. She has a little left, In Shaa Allaah Ta’aala.

Q4: “This motivation of yours, did it have an effect on other women around you?”

She said, “It really had a good strong effect. My daughters and stepdaughters were all encouraged and worked on learning and teaching the Qur’aan to their children and learning it themselves.

Q5: “After finishing the Noble Qur’aan, don’t you think about working on memorizing hadith?”

She said, “Now I have memorized ninety hadith and In Shaa Allaah I will continue the journey. I depend, in my memorization, upon the tapes and upon the Qur’aan radio station. At the end of each week, my daughter comes and checks for me the memorization of three hadith, and I am trying now to memorize more.

Q6: “Over this period of memorization of the Qur’aan, did your life change? Was it affected in one way or another?”

She said, “Yes, I went through a major change and I tried always, all praise is due to Allaah, to obey Allaah before I started the memorization. However, after I started the task of memorization, I began to feel a self-comfort, a great self-comfort and all worries began to move away from me. I even reached the stage of freeing myself from all these excessive worries concerning fearing for the children and their affairs, and my morale was boosted.

I had a noble objective to work for and this is a great Ni’mah (Favor) from Allaah . upon me, since we know that some women, when they get old and they do not have a husband, and their children got married, may be destroyed by the empty time, thoughts, worries, and so forth. But, AlHamdulillaah, I didn’t go through this and I made myself busy with a great task and a great objective.

Q7: “Didn’t you think at one point, to join one of the circles focusing on teaching the Noble Qur’aan?”

The answer was, “Yes, some of the women suggested this to me, but I am a woman who got used to staying at home, and I don’t like to go out everyday, and Al Hamdulillaah, my daughter sufficed me from all difficulty and I was so happy while I was learning from her. My daughter had set an example in goodness and righteousness which we rarely find in our days.

She started this task and journey with me while she was an adolescent and this is a critical age many people complain of. She used to pressure herself so that she could have spare time to teach me, and she used to teach me with kindness and wisdom. Her husband was a good help to her and he exerted a lot of effort. I ask Allaah . to give them success and to bring their children up on uprightness.”

Q8: “What do you say to a woman of your age who wishes to learn and memorize the Qur’aan yet she is worried about it and feeling unable to?”

She said, “I say to her there their shall be no despair with the firm, sincere and truthful determination. Begin with sincerity, firm determination and dependence on Allaah at each time. And remember that at this age you should have the time for yourself. However, do not use your time to only go out or to sleep and so forth. Rather, busy yourself with righteous work.

Q9: “Now what would you say to a woman who is still young? What would you advise her?”

She, may Allaah preserve her, said: “Preserve Allaah and He will preserve you. Make use of the favor of Allaah bestowed upon you from health and ways and means of comfort. Use that to memorize the Book of Allaah. This is the light which enlivens your heart, your life and your grave after you die.

And if you have a mother then exert the effort to teach her, and there is no better favor upon a mother than one of her righteous children aiding her to be close to Allaah.”

Quran: “Each verse is like a date: the more you chew it…”

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

Daily we open our inbox in Facebook, in Mobile, etc. and read the messages sent by our friends and relatives. But how many time do we open the Q’uran and read the Message sent by Allaah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala?

These are great reminders for us:

1 – The Messenger of Allah said:

“Whoever wants to to love Allah and His Messenger, then let him read the Mushaf.” [‘Sahih al-Jami”; # 6289]

2 – Ibn ‘Abbas narrated:

“al-Walid bin al-Mughirah (a polytheist) came to the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah recited the Qur’an to him, and al-Walid seemed to become affected and softened by it. Abu Jahl came to know of this, so, he came to al-Walid and said: “Don’t you see that your people are collecting charity for you?”

He said: “And why is that?”

Abu Jahl replied: “So that they can give it to you, as they see that you went to Muhammad to get some of his food.”

al-Walid said: “Quraysh knows that I am of the wealthiest of its sons.”

Abu Jahl said: “So, say to Muhammad something that would convince your people that you oppose him.”

al-Walid replied: “And what can I possibly say? There is not a single man who is more knowledgable of poetry or prose than I, or even that of the Jinn, and by Allah, what he says bears no resemblance to these things. By Allah, what he says has a sweetness to it, and a charm upon it; the highest part of it is fruitful and the lowest part of it is gushing forth with bounty; it dominates and cannot be dominated, and it crushes all that is under it.””

[Reported by al-Hakim in ‘al-Mustadrak’ (2/506-507) and at-Tabari in ‘Jami’ al-Bayan’ (29/156), and it is authentic]

3 – Jubayr bin Mut’im said:

“I heard the Messeger of Allah recite ‘at-Tur’ in the Maghrib prayer, and when he got to the verses {“Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, but they have no firm Belief. Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like?”} [at-Tur; 35-37], my heart wanted to fly from my body out of awe.”  [‘Tafsir Ibn Kathir’; 4/309]

4 – ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan said:

“If our hearts were truly pure, we would never get enough of the Words of our Lord, and I hate that one day passes with me not looking in the Mushaf.”   [‘al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah’; 7/215]

5 – Ibn Abi Mulaykah narrated:

“‘Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl used to press the Mushaf to his face and cry, saying: “The Book of my Lord! The Words of my Lord!””  [Reported by ‘Abdullah bin al-Mubarak in ‘al-Jihad’; # 56]

6 – Bishr bin as-Sirri said:

“Verily, each verse is like a date: the more you chew it, the more of its sweetness is released.” Abu Sulayman heard this and commented: “True. It is the case with one of you that if he begins one chapter of it, he wants to read it to the end.”  [‘al-Hadith fi ‘Ulum al-Qur’an’; p. 70]

Translated by Abu Sabaayaa

Should We Read Al Qur’an With Understanding??

“And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? “  (Qur’an, 54:17)

Since none of us want to be misguided, it is paramount not only to read or recite Quran, but to understand and implement it in our lives as well.

Hardening of the Heart: Part 4 of 5 – Methods of Cure: (3) The Quran

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

The third way by which we can soften our hearts is the Quran itself.

Allah states in the Quran, Al-Hadid, 57:16, “Has not the time come for those who believe for their hearts to fear Allah when they hear the Quran (dhikrullah here is in reference to the Quran) and what truth there is in it, so that they not be like those who received the Scripture before, but in the passage of time, their hearts became hard. And most of them are corrupt.”

If we reflect on the Quran, it has the power to soften our hearts. Allah said, about the jinn who heard the Quran, “Indeed we heard an amazing Quran; it guides us to Allah and we believe in it and we will set not partners besides Allah.” [See Quran, Surah al-Ahqaf 46:29-32]

Allah goes on to describe the righteous, “And if they (this is amongst the Christians) hear what was revealed to the Messenger, you will see their eyes welling up with tears because of what they know of the truth of what has been brought.” This was the case of the ruler of Ethiopia. When Muslims sought refuge there and they recited a portion of the Quran, they saw his eyes fill with tears.

This is how we should be. When we hear the Quran, we should reflect on the meanings. The Quran should not become for us a replacement for pop songs that we used to hear before. People buy recordings of their favourite reciters for the beauty of their voice… The listening of the Quran has become more of a musical thing. We are entertained by that music, so much so that when the reciter is reading, we hear people in the background going, “Allah! Allah! Allah!” People making statements in the background as thought it were a pop show! This is not the Quran… Allah tells us, “Will they not reflect on the meanings?”

The Quran is a Book of Guidance and it is in the reflection on the meaning of the Quran that we benefit, for it is very important for us to re-assess how we are dealing with the Quran. We should be reading it regularly, not only leaving it until Ramadhan. We reflect on it… not reading it Ramadhan so we can finish the whole Book and say we finished the Quran in Ramadhan. It really does not matter if we don’t finish the Quran in Ramadhan. For most of the Prophet’s Sallallahu ‘Alayhi wa sallam life, he did not finish the whole Quran in Ramadhan. Most of the companions did not finish the reading of the Quran in Ramadhan. Today, for us, Ramadhan is not complete unless we read the whole Quran in Ramadhan. We hire reciters to recite the Quran at 99 miles an hour so much so that even Arabic-speaking people cannot figure out where in the Quran the reciter is!

This has become the precedence — finishing the Quran in Ramadhan and if you can finish it twice, even better! B

When we want to talk about Islam as a way of life, it is a very difficult task especially in the West because o f several misconceptions and stereotypes that are prevalent about Islam and Muslims.

One of the surprising facts for most non-Muslims is that Islam has over 975 million followers all over the world. Islam has a revelation, a holy book, called the Qur’an which was revealed to the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him about fourteen hundred years ago. The Qur’an is the last and final revelation until the end of human existence on earth.

When we talk about Islam or Christianity, we should not consider some Muslims ‘ and Christians’ wrongdoing as a way to judge Islam or Christianity.

As far as scripture goes, let us see what Dr. Maurice Bucailie said in his book The Bible, the Qur’an and Science, which was published by the American Trust Publications 1979:

“Thanks to its undisputed authenticity, the text of the Qur’an holds a unique place among the books of Revelation, shared neither by the Old nor the New Testament. In the first two sections of this work, a review was made of the alterations undergone by the Old Testament and the Gospels before they were handed down to us in the form we know today. The same is not true for the Qur’an for the simple reason that It was written down at the time of the prophet”.

Somebody with a counter argument might ask, “How would I know that the Qur’an is a revelation from Allah? Do you have any evidence?’

I have evidence that the Qur’an is a revelation from Allah and this evidence is presented in the next few pages. When the revelation of the Qur’an commenced in 622 A.D., it was a linguistic miracle. The Quran has a challenge in it. The challenge is for anybody to produce some thing like or similar to the Qur’an.

This challenge was presented in the Qur’an in Sura No.17, Veise No.88 which is translated as follows:

“Say : If the whole of mankind and Jinn were together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they back up each other with help and support.”

Years passed and nobody was able to meet the challenge. Later (after several years) the challenge in the Qur’an was eased asking for anyone to produce even ten Suras like those in it. This was in the Quran in Sum No. 11, Verse no. 13 which is translated as follows:

“Or they may say, “He forged it” Say, “Bring ye then ten Suras forged, like unto it, and call (to your aid) whomsoever ye can, other than Allah! If ye speak the truth”

Again years passed and nobody was able to successfully meet the challenge. Later the challenge was eased for the second time to produce one Sura like or similar to the Suras in the Qur’an.

The challenge (to anyone) to produce one Sura was presented in the Qur’an in more than a Sura, one of them was in Sura No. 2, Verse No. 23 which is translated as follows:

” And If ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers besides Allah, if what you say is true. “

Since then more than fourteen hundred years have passed, and nobody has been able to meet the challenge, and nobody will, because the Qur’an is the only existing book containing the word of Allah which no man can match or imitate. The most eloquent people in the Arabic language spent years going over and searching the Qur’an, trying to find any weak or Inadequate word or sentence, but they could not. They even went further, trying to find a way to substitute a word or a sentence in the Qur’an, hoping to convey a similar meaning as the original one, but they failed to do so.

As a result of this, many people, especially linguists, throughout the last fourteen hundred years believed in the Qur’an as a revelation beyond any human capacity.

In the beginning of the modern ages, some non-Muslims argued that the appreciation of the Arabic language has declined even among the native speakers themselves, and that most of the non-Muslims cannot speak Arabic. They conclude that the Qur’an will not stay till the end of the human existence
on earth as a miracle.

This is not a valid argument because, there are still millions of people all over the world who have a very good command of the Arabic language and could appreciate the linguistic miracle of the Qur’an But the Quran has something else for the modem ages. Some people have noticed that there are many facts about the science of astronomy, human reproduction and other scientific fields in the Qur’an.

Modem scientists have been amazed by the accuracy of scientific information presented in the Quran. Some people wrote books about this phenomenon which attracted the attention of many people in the west-both Muslims and Non-Muslims.

One of these books is a specialized book in embryology entitled The Developing Human by Dr.Keith L. Moore, published by W.B. Saunders,1982. In the third edition of this book, Dr. Moore said:

It is cited in the Koran, the holy book of the Muslims, that human beings are produced from a mixture of secretions from the male and the female. Several references are made to the creation of a human being from a sperm drop and it is also suggested that the resulting organism settles in the woman like a seed, six days after its beginning.

(The human blastocyst begins to implant about six days after fertilization.) The Koran, (and prophet saying), also states that the sperm drop develops “into a clot of congealed blood” (an implanted blastocyst or a spontaneously aborted conceptus would resemble a blood clot.)

Reference is also made to the leech-like appearance of the Embryo …”

This was part of what. Dr. Moore wrote in his book Later, after more research and study of the Qur’anic terms used to describe the development of the embryo in the mother’s womb and other related descriptions, Dr. Moore found that the Qur’anic terms and statements are amazing in their scientific accuracy.

Therefore, Dr. ‘Moore decided to add a chapter to the next edition of his book to discuss the scientific
accuracy of the Qur’anic version, which was revealed fourteen hundred years ago. In the seventh Saudi Medical Meeting, Dr. Moore wrote a paper about Human Embryology in the
Qur’an and the Hadith. He said in the paper 1 was amazed at the scientific accuracy of these statements (in the Qur’an), which were made in the 7th century A.D.

Now the question Is: if the Qur’an describes these scientific facts with great accuracy, how, could’ it be a human work? Let us see what Dr.Maurice Bucaille said after he had read the Qur’an:

“My first goal was to read the Qur’an and to make a sentence by sentence analysis of it… my approach was to pay special attention to the description of numerous natural phenomena given in the Qur’an; the highly accurate nature of certain details referring to them in the Book, which was only apparent in the original, struck me’ by the fact that they were in keeping with present-day ideas although a man living at the time of Muhammad couldn’t have suspected this at’ all… what initially strikes the reader confronted for the first time with a text of this kind is the sheer abundance of subjects discussed.., where as monumental errors are to be found in the Bible I could not find a single error in the Qur’an. I had to stop and ask myself:

if a man was the author of the Qur’an how could he have written facts in the seventh century A.D. that today are shown to be in keeping with modern scientific knowledge?…

What human explanation can there be to this observation? In my opinion there is no explanation; there is no special reason why an inhabitant of the Arabian Peninsula should have had scientific knowledge on certain subjects that was ten centuries ahead…It is an established fact that at the time of the Qur’anic Revelation, i.e. within a period of roughly twenty three years straddling Hegira (622 A.D.), scientific knowledge had not progressed for centuries and the period of activity in Islamic civilization, with its accompanying scientific upsurge, came after the close of the Qur’anic revelation.”

In addition to what Dr. Bucaille said, there are more examples from different scientific fields other than embryology.

When I searched the Qur’an for verses which refer to scientific facts, I found a large number of such verses. I will try to give as many examples as the space permits.

The Qur’an states several facts about astronomy which were discovered in the late twentieth century. One of these facts is about the expansion of the universe. Let us see what Dr. Bucaille said about that:

The expansion of the universe is the most imposing discovery of modern science today it is a firmly established concept and the only debate centers around the way this is taking place.

It was first suggested by the general theory of relativity and is backed up by physics in the examination of the galactic spectrum; the regular movement towards the red section of their spectrum may be explained by the distancing of one galaxy from another.

Thus the size of the Universe is probably constantly increasing and this increase will become bigger the further away the galaxies are from us.The speeds at which these celestial bodies are moving may, in the course of this perpetual expansion, go from fractions of the speed of light to speeds faster than this.The following Verse of the Qur’an Sura 51, verse 47 where God is speaking,may perhaps be compared with modern ideas;

“The heaven, We have built it with power. Verily We are expanding it.

“Heaven” is the translation of the word “sama” and this is exactly the extraterrestrial world that is
meant. “We are. expanding it” is the translation of the plural present participle” musi’una” of the verb “aus’a” a meaning” to make wider”, more spacious, to extend, to expand.”

Another example from a different scientific field is about the living things in general which we can find in more than one verse in the Qur’an. For example Sura 21, Verse 30 was chosen by Dr. Bucaille to present how the Qur’an talked about these scientific facts. The Verse is translated as follows:

“ Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We clove them asunder and We got every living thing out of the water. Will they then not believe? ”

The notion of “getting something out of something” does not give rise to any doubts. The phrase can equally mean that every living thing was made of water (as its essential component) or that every living thing originated in water. The two possible meanings are strictly in accordance with scientific data. Life is in fact of aquatic origin and water is the major component of all living cells. Without water, life is not possible. When the possibility of life on another planet is discussed, the first question is always: does it contain a sufficient quantity of water to support life?

From the Animal Kingdom there are so many facts stated in the Qur’an. One of these facts is about the source of the constituents of animal milk which has been described in the Qur’an fourteen hundred years before. It has been understood only in recent times. Let us see how Dr. Bucaille explained that when he made comments on Sura 16,Verse 66 which is translated as follows:

“ Verily, in cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink of what is inside their bodies, coming from a conjunction between the contents of the intestine and the blood, a milk pure and pleasant for those who drink it.”

“From a scientific point of view, physiological notions must be called upon to grasp the meaning of this verse.

The substances that ensure the general nutrition of the body come from chemical transformations which occur along the length of the digestive tract. These substances come from the contents of the intestine. On arrival in the intestine at the appropriate stage of chemical transformation, they pass through its wall and towards the systematic circulation.

This passage is effected in two ways: either directly, by what are called the ‘lymphatic vessels’, or indirectly, by the portal circulation.

This conducts them first to the liver, where they undergo alterations, and from here they then emerge to join the systematic circulation. In this way everything passes through the bloodstream..

The constituents of milk are secreted by the mammary glands.

These are nourished, as it were, by the product of food digestion brought to them via the bloodstream. Blood therefore plays the role of collector and conductor of what has been extracted from food, and it brings nutrition to the mammary glands, the producers of milk, as it does to any other organ. Here the initial process which sets everything else in motion is the bringing together of the contents of the intestine and blood, at the level of the intestinal wall itself. This very precise concept is the result of the discoveries made in the chemistry and physiology of the digestive system. It was totally unknown at the time of the Prophet Muhammad and has been understood only in recent times. The discovery of the circulation of the blood, was made by Harvey roughly ten centuries after. The Qur’anic Revelation.

I consider that the existence in the Qur’an of the verse referring to these concepts can have no human explanation on account of the period in which they were formulated.”

The last example I would cite from Dr. Bucaille’s book is what I consider a very interesting one, because this example illustrates where the Qur’an showed the people facts that have not even been discovered without the help of the information given in the Qur’an. This example is about the story of the Pharaoh and Noses which was presented in the Qur’an in more than one Sura.

The Verses which inspire Dr. Bucaille to do the research around this incident are in Sura 10, Verses 90 to 92, which means as follows:

“We (Allah) took children of Israel across the sea. Pharaoh with his hosts pursued them in rebellion and hostility till, when the fact of his drowning overtook him he said: I believe there is no True God except the God in whom the Children 0] Israel believe. I am of those who submit themselves to Him.(It was said to him)’ Now! Thou has rebelled and cause depravity: This day We save thee in thy body so that thou
mayest be a sign for those who come after thee’ But verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our signs.

This is what the Holy Qur’an said about the story of Moses and the Pharaoh and the sign Allah left for the people who come after the Pharaoh to see who has a revelation from Allah and who does not have.
Let us hear from Dr. Bucaille how he conducted research to verify this Qur’anic story:

“In June 1975, the Egyptian high authorities very kindly allowed me to examine the parts of the Pharaoh’s body that had been covered until then. They also allowed me to take photographs…

What may already be derived from this examination is the discovery of multiple lesions of the bones with broad lacunae, some of which may have been mortal although it is not yet possible to ascertain whether some of them occurred before or after the Pharaoh’s death. He most probably died either from drowning, according to the scriptural narrations, or from very violent shocks preceding the moment when he was drowned or both at once.

The connection of these lesions with the deterioration whose sources have been mentioned above renders the correct preservation of the mummy of the Pharaoh somewhat problematical, unless precautionary and restorative measures are not taken very soon. These measures should ensure that the only concrete evidence which we still possess today concerning the death, of the Pharaoh of the Exodus and the rescue of his body, willed by God; does not disappear with the passage of time.

It is always desirable for man to apply himself to the preservation of relics of his history, but here we have something which goes beyond that: it is the material presence of the mummified body of the man. who knew Moses, resisted his pleas, pursued him as he took flight and lost his life in the process. His earthly remains were saved by the Will of God from destruction to become a sign to man, as it is written in the Qur’an.

Those who seek among modern data for proof of the veracity of the Holy Scriptures will find a magnificent illustration of the verses of the Qur’an dealing with the Pharaoh’s body by visiting the Royal Mummies Room of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo!”

These are a few examples just to illustrate what I am talking about in this booklet. There are over a hundred of these examples in several scientific fields in the Quran which all have been proven to be
scientifically true; in this Book which was revealed fourteen hundred years ago. Anybody who would like to examine more of these concepts could read the Qur’an and find out for himself or, an interested person could get Dr. Bucaille’s book The Bible The Qur’an and Science, which is available in bookstores and check the accuracy of what he referred to. Not only Dr. Bucaille and Dr. Moore, but many scholars have researched these concepts and a lot of this research was presented on September 23rd, 1985 in the conference which was held in Cairo under the title of The Scientific Concepts in the Qur’an.

Several papers were presented at the conference. One of the most interesting papers was from Dr. T.V. persuade, a professor at the University of Manitoba, Canada, about human reproduction. Another interesting paper was presented by Dr. Marshal Johnson Ph.D., the Director of Daniel Baugh Institute, Philadelphia, U.S.A., also about embryology in the Qur’an. Dr. Johnson said at the conference that he started to use the Qur’anic terms in teaching embryology to his students because they were more accurate and easier to learn than the terms in textbooks.

Dr. Arthur Elson from the City University in London, U.K., stated that he was amazed by the scientific
accuracy of the statements which had been made in the Qur’an. He had no doubt in his mind that these were not human words because these facts had lust been discovered recently.

I would like to quote a Verse from the Qur’an which may sum up the purpose of having these scientific facts in the Quran as signs for the people.

The verse is from Sura 41, Verse 53 which is translated as follows:

” We (Allah) will show them (the unbe lievers) Our signs in the farthest regions, and within their own selves until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth.”

What is the Qur’an all about ?

The Qur’an is written in beautiful prose that continues to be marvelled by the experts of the Arabic language. But it is not merely a literary masterpiece.

The Qur’an contains scientific facts and explanations that fascinate scientists of all fields. But it Is not an encyclopedia of science.

The Quran mentions stories of people and places in the past with vivid detail. But it is not merely a book of history.

So what is Qur’an ?

The Qur’an is a revelation from the Creator of this universe to all human beings.

Its most important message is the Unity of God – that there is only One Supreme Being who has no partners and is not dependent on anyone or anything. He is the Creator of everything and the whole universe is in His control. He is the only One worthy of being worshipped.

It is impossible for the created to fully comprehend the Creator – so the Qur’an makes us aware of Him by mentioning His Attributes. He is the most Merciful, the Loving, the Majestic, the Oft-Forgiving. The name that He has chosen for Himself is Allah.

In His infinite mercy, Allah has not left mankind to wander searching for the correct path. He has revealed the Qur’an which includes a code for all people to follow. Islam is not just a set of beliefs. It is a complete way of life which covers all spheres of human activity – the social, economic, political, educational as well as the spiritual. Islam enjoins good manners for every occasion and stresses treating people, particularly relatives and neighbors, with kindness. The family enjoys a high status in Islam – it is viewed as the nucleus of society.

Allah has also sent messengers to guide mankind to the truth and to be an example for others to emulate. Stories of these messengers starting from Adam and including those of Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, and ending with Muhammad ( may peace be upon them all ) are found in the Qur’an.

This final revelation from Allah to mankind has been safeguarded from any alteration. Since the Qur’an has been preserved in its original Arabic it has not lost any meaning in translation to another language. Millions of people from all parts of the world have memorized the complete Qur’an. So even if all printed copies of the Qur’an were destroyed it would continue to live in the hearts of these people.

What do Muslims believe?

There is only one God, Allah, who alone is worthy of being worshipped.

Mankind has been guided at various times by the messengers of Allah of whom the most prominent were Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad. The final message was sent to the last prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which replaces all previous messages. None of the prophets claimed to be god or part-god – they were human and were obedient to Allah.

Finally, I want to inform you that Islam is the universal message of Allah to all mankind and prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last and final messenger of Allah. Therefore, Allah will not accept any way of life except Islam. He said in the Gracious Qur’an which is translated as follows:

” And any one who chooses a way of life other than Islam, it will not be accepted from him and in the hereafter he will be one of the losers. “(3:85)

Please save yourself from the hell fire by embracing Islam

Some of the lessons from Quran that apply to our general living!

1. Respect and honor all human beings irrespective of their religion, colour, race, sex, language, status, property, birth, profession/job and so on [17/70]

2. Talk straight, to the point, without any ambiguity or deception [33/70]

3. Choose best words to speak and say them in the best possible way [17/53, 2/83]

4.Do not shout. Speak politely keeping your voice low. [31/19]

5.Always speak the truth. Shun words that are deceitful and ostentatious [22/30]

6. Do not confound truth with falsehood [2/42]

7.Say with your mouth what is in your heart [3/167]

8. Speak in a civilized manner in a language that is recognized by the society and is commonly used [4/5]

9. When you voice an opinion, be just, even if it is against a relative[6/152]

10. Do not be a bragging boaster [31/18]

11. Do not talk, listen or do anything vain [23/3, 28/55]

12. Do not participate in any paltry. If you pass near a futile play, then pass by with dignity [25/72]

13. Do not verge upon any immodesty or lewdness whether surreptitious or overt [6/151].

14. If, unintentionally, any misconduct occurs by you, then correct yourself expeditiously [3/134].

15. Do not be contemptuous or arrogant with people [31/18]

16. Do not walk haughtily or with conceit [17/37, 31/18]

17. Be moderate in thy pace [31/19]

19. Keep your gazes lowered devoid of any lecherous leers and salacious stares [24/30-31, 40/19].

20. If you do not have complete knowledge about anything, better keep your mouth shut. You might think that speaking about something without full knowledge is a trivial matter. But it might have grave consequences [24/15-16]

21. When you hear something malicious about someone, keep a favorable view about him/her until you attain full knowledge about the matter. Consider others innocent until they are proven guilty with solid and truthful evidence [24/12-13]

22. Ascertain the truth of any news, lest you smite someone in ignorance and afterward repent of what you did[49/6]

23. Do not follow blindly any information of which you have no direct knowledge. (Using your faculties of perception and conception) you must verify it for yourself. In the Court of your Lord, you will be held accountable for your hearing, sight, and the faculty of reasoning [17/36].

24. Never think that you have reached the final stage of knowledge and nobody knows more than yourself. Remember! Above everyone endowed with knowledge is another endowed with more knowledge [12/76]. Even the Prophet [p.b.u.h] was asked to keep praying, “O My Sustainer! Advance
me in knowledge.” [20:114]

25. The believers are but a single Brotherhood. Live like members of one family, brothers and sisters unto one another [49/10].

35. Treat kindly
” Your parents
” Relatives
” The orphans
” And those who have been left alone in the society [4/36]

36. Take care of
” The needy,
” The disabled
” Those whose hard earned income is insufficient to meet their needs
” And those whose businesses have stalled
” And those who have lost their jobs. [4/36]

37. Treat kindly ” Your related neighbours, and unrelated neighbours ” Companions by your side in public gatherings, or public transportation. [4/36]

38. Be generous to the needy wayfarer, the homeless son of the street, and the one who reaches you in a destitute condition [4/36]

39. Be nice to people who work under your care. [4/36]

40. Do not follow up what you have given to others to afflict them with reminders of your generosity [2/262].

41. Do not expect a return for your good behaviour, not even thanks [76/9]

42. Cooperate with one another in good deeds and do not cooperate with others in evil and bad matters [5/2]

43. Do not devour the wealth and property of others unjustly, nor bribe the officials or the judges to deprive others of their possessions [2/188] [53/32]

48. Call people to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful exhortation. Reason with them most decently [16/125]

49. Leave to themselves those who do not give any importance to the Divine code and have adopted and consider it as mere play and amusement [6/70]

50. Sit not in the company of those who ridicule Divine Law unless they engage in some other conversation[4/140]

7 Reasons to Read the Glorious Qur’an

Posted on by hamzaa in , , , Leave a comment

Why we should read the Glorious Qur’an, the Noble Qur’an, the Holy Qur’an???

Here are the reasons:

1. Inimitable

It dares you to disprove it. How? It says that humans cannot write a book like this even if they pooled all their resources together and got help also from the spirits. The Qur’an said this issue fourteen hundred years ago and yet no one has been able to disprove it. Billions of books have been writ-ten-but not another one like the Qur’an.

2. Incorruptible

It is the only religious sacred writing that has been in circulation for such a long time and yet remains as pure as it was in the beginning. The Qur’an was kept intact. Nothing was added to it; nothing was changed in it; and nothing was taken away from it ever since its revelation was completed 1400 years ago.

3. Unsurpassable

The Qur’an is God’s final revelation to humankind. God revealed the Torah to Moses, the Psalms to David, the Gospel to Jesus, and finally the Qur’an to Muhammad. Peace be upon Moses, David, Jesus and Muhammad. No other book will come from God to surpass His final revelation.

4. Indisputable

The Qur’an withstands the test of time and scrutiny. No one can dispute the truth of this book. It speaks about past history and turns out right. It speaks about the future in prophecies and it turns out right. It mentions details of physical phenomena which were not known to people at the time; yet later scientific discoveries prove that the Qur’an was right all along. Every other book needs to be revised to accord with modern know-ledge. The Qur’an alone is never contradicted by a newly discovered scientific fact.

5. Your Roadmap for Life and Afterlife

The Qur’an is the best guidebook on how to structure your life. No other book presents such a comprehensive system involving all aspects of hu-man life. The Qur’an also points out the way to secure everlasting happi-ness in the afterlife. It is your roadmap showing how to get to Paradise.

6. God’s Gift of Guidance

God has not left you alone. You were made for a reason. God tells you why he made you, what he demands from you and what he has in store for you. If you operate a machine contrary to its manufacturer’s specification you will ruin that machine. What about you? Do you have an owner’s ma-nual for yourself? The Qur’an is from your Maker. It is a gift for you to make sure you function for success, lest you fail to function.
It is a healing from God. It satisfies the soul, and cleans the heart. It re-moves doubts and brings peace.

7. Your Calling Card to Communicate with your Lord

Humans are social creatures. We love to communicate with other intelli-gent life. The Qur’an tells us how to communicate with the source of all intelligence and the source of all life. The Qur’an tells us who God is, by what name we should address Him, and the way in which to communicate with Him.

So brothers and sisters, Are these not seven sufficient reasons for reading the Qur’an?
